Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, also known as SCI, is a plant-origin powder surfactant used to add cleansing power and rich foam to personal care formulations. Derived from coconut oil and palm oil, it creates abundant, stable lather even in hard water and in formulations containing vegetable oil. Products made with SCI are milder than those formulated with sodium lauryl sulfate-type surfactants, making this ingredient suitable for a variety of cleansing products and formulations for all skin and hair types. Its fine white powder is easy to handle and is packaged in an airtight box. SCI is insoluble in oil and can dissolve in hot or cold water. Use it in liquid foaming products at 5% to 30%, or in solid and powder products at 10% to 40%, based on the total weight of the preparation. It is suitable for shower creams, foaming bath products, bath powders, shower bars, solid shampoos, and similar formulations.
